Lunch Colloquium @ Petten by Clym Stock-Williams: 'When computers climb mountains'

In this first lunch colloquium, Clym Stock-Williams, working on wind energy will present a talk with the title: 'When computers climb mountains'

Mathematical optimisation is a central pillar of Artificial Intelligence, allowing us automatically to find the best solution to a given problem.  This is great for any kind of decision support system, as well as for training models to data. Clym will outline how optimisation works, the range of optimisation approaches in use – with some advantages, drawbacks and examples of each – and finish off with a description of a new tool he developed last year: ECN Despatch, for automated daily maintenance planning on offshore wind farms.
