Please join us for the lunch colloquium of Xiaoqian Lu from the solar research group. 

'Industrial polysilicon solar cell'

Because of the long-term decarbonization of the world’s energy supply policy, PV electricity has gotten more and more attention, and PV solar energy is reported to become a major energy source within fifty years. For the past decades silicon based solar cell have been dominant (~90%) in the PV market. In order to increase the efficiency of silicon solar cells and to lower their price, the

silicon solar cell technology has improved dramatically in the past twenty years

and today it is the dominant solar cell technology. ECN Solar Energy has been working on developing new technology for industrial scale silicon solar cell production and our cell concept named as PERPoly (Passivated Emitter Rear PolySi) were manufactured with low-cost industrial process steps yielding highest efficiency of 21.5%. In this presentation, the process to produce a silicon solar cell will be shown and explained.
